Knowledge. Skills. Behaviours. The Right Foundations for Outstanding Care.
At Right at Home South Cheshire, we know that care is a highly skilled profession, and we treat it that way. From a Care Professional's very first enquiry, through to long term career development, training is at the heart of everything we do.
Our induction Programme is a comprehensive four day course designed to support both new and experienced Care Professionals, so whether you are brand new or have a wealth of experience, we are all on the same page. By adapting the programme to different levels of experience, we created an inclusive learning environment where everyone has the opportunity to grow, develop, succeed and above all, enjoy training!
Day-To-Day Training
Day One
The first day of training is induction day, which plays a vital vole in preparing new Care Professionals for their role within Right at Home South Cheshire. Day one is designed to help you build the essential skills, knowledge and understanding needed to deliver high quality care in a safe and effective way.
Here are a few key examples of things you will learn about on induction day:
- Understanding your role
- Duty of care
- Equality and Diversity
- Privacy and Dignity
- Safeguarding
Day Two
The second day of training focuses on Basic Life Support (BLS) and medication training, which are both essential for ensuring the safety and well-being of clients we care for. This day is designed to provide you with practical skills and knowledge needed to respond effectively in emergency situations, such as cardiac arrest, choking or breathing difficulties. Through hands on practice and guided instructions, you will learn how to carry out CPR, use emergency equipment and the correct procedure whilst waiting for emergency services.
The medication training ensure you understand the importance of safe and accurate medical administration. You learn about different types of medications, dosages, routes of administration, record keeping and the importance of following policies, protocols and legal guidelines.
By the end of the day you should feel confident in your ability to manage emergencies professionally, and be able to support clients safely with their medication.
Day Three
The third day of training focuses on moving and handling, which is a core area within training that needs practice to ensure safety, comfort and dignity of both our clients and staff. This day provides you with the knowledge and practical skills needed to move and support individuals safely while reducing the risks of injury, strain or discomfort.
You learn about the correct posture, how to use equipment such as hoists, slide sheets etc... This day is full of practical hands-on training and by the end of the day you should feel confident to carry out safe moving and handling practices.
Day Four
The fourth day of training is around dementia care, this day is designed to help you develop a deeper understanding of the different types of dementia, their symptoms and how the condition effects a person's memory, communication, behaviour and daily functioning. You will also learn how to recognise the early signs of dementia, how to respond appropriately to changes in mood/behaviour and communicate in ways that reassure clients.
You will participate in the practical activities which include a 'simulation' where you experience life through a person with dementia's eyes. You will complete day-to-day activities to gain the personal experience of what it is like to live with the condition. Along with education videos, written exercises and more. By the end of the day you will feel confident in your ability to provide care for those living with dementia, and how to support them and their loved ones.
Impact On Delivering Outstanding Training
Our approach for training is to be as safe, effective, up to date and reflective of real situations, as possible. Therefore, the impact of this can be seen in the confidence of our Care Professionals, the safety of the care we deliver and positive outcomes experienced by the people we support. This is evident through our observations, audits, spot checks, supervisions and feedback.
Beyond training, we are committed to support the long-term development of our workforce. Care Professionals are encouraged to pursue further qualifications, including NVQs, while they are working with us, allowing them to enhance their skills and apply their learning directly to the care they provide.
We also offer progression pathways into senior, management and office based roles for those with the right experience, knowledge and ambition. This helps us to build a knowledgeable, motivated and happy workforce.
How This Impacts Our Community...
Our training extends beyond our internal workforce, and plays a key role in supporting health, safety and wellbeing within the community. In 2025 we introduced the Whzan Blue Box to our team, which is an advanced health monitoring piece of equipment, that takes a NEWS2 score, which is recognised by many Care Professionals including the NHS.
Our staff received full training on how to operate and use the items within the box, allowing us to professionally complete a health check on our existing clients and to potential clients when completing their in-person assessment.
The Whzan health allows us to understand valuable insights, identify health risks, make informed decisions and promote proactive care planning. This not only enhances our high-quality services, but helps us to support wider health services, such as the NHS, by identifying signs earlier, avoiding deterioration and unnecessary hospital admissions.
We actively aim to deliver free community based informative and awareness talks wherever we can, helping the wider community become more knowledgeable and aware. This includes our dementia talks, which support community groups, families, individuals and other community members to better understand dementia, reduce the stigma around dementia, support those living with the condition in a professional and compassionate way, support members of the public to become more aware and support those specifically living with dementia.
Additionally, we have run free CPR sessions throughout February 2025, equipping over 100 members of our local community with the life-saving skills and therefore increasing the likelihood of early intervention in emergency situations. The sessions were running alongside British Heart Foundation’s Heart month, using the ReviR service to support the training, this helps to positively impact our local public safety. We are hoping to do the same again in future years.
