Mental Health Awareness Week 2025: Supporting Wellbeing at Right at Home North Somerset & Somerset
This Mental Health Awareness Week (12th–19th May 2025), we’re shining a spotlight on the importance of mental wellbeing and how our services at Right at Home North Somerset & Somerset help support our Clients, their families, our staff members and our wider community.
Why Mental Health Matters
Mental health is just as important as physical health. It affects how we think, feel, and act every day. For many people, especially older adults and those living with long-term conditions such as dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and physical disability   feelings of loneliness or isolation can have a big impact on wellbeing. That’s why this week, and every week, we’re committed to making a positive difference in our local community of North Somerset and Somerset - offering exceptional care services to our clients and their families and engaging with local residents through our regular community events.
The Link Between Home Care and Mental Wellbeing
Quality homecare isn’t just about practical support, it’s about building meaningful connections, creating positive routines, and helping people feel valued, supported, and understood. At Right at Home North Somerset & Somerset, we know that small acts of kindness and person-centred care and companionship can make a world of difference, which is why we offer such a wide variety of care services in our community.
How Our Services Promote Mental Health
1. Companionship Visits
Our CareGivers provide more than just practical help - they offer friendship and a listening ear. Whether it’s chatting over a cup of tea, playing games, gardening, or sharing a walk, these visits build strong caring relationships, reduce loneliness and boredom, and bring joy to everyday life.
2. Coffee Mornings & Community Events
We regularly host and encourage people to attend our coffee mornings and community events in North Somerset and Somerset - an example being our Clarence Park Café coffee mornings where we make the most of the beautiful outdoor seating areas. We know that spending time outside and connecting with others is proven to boost mood and mental wellbeing. Our events are open to everyone - Clients and their families, CareGivers, and anyone from the wider community that would like to socialise or find out more about our care services and community events.
3. Exercise and Activity Sessions
At Right at Home, we know that staying active is key to keeping healthy and feeling good. We offer gentle chair-based exercise sessions and group activities, tailored to all abilities, to help lift spirits and keep bodies moving. During Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re showcasing these activities to encourage new participants to join in the fun! You can find out more on our What's On Where page, and on our Facebook account
4. Dementia-Friendly Support
Our fantastic team of community CareGivers is trained to support those living with dementia, offering tailored, person-centred activities and safe, inclusive, and engaging environments. We focus on what our Clients can do, helping them feel confident and included.
Our Commitment to Mental Health
All our staff receive mental health awareness training, and we foster a culture where everyone - Clients, CareGivers, and families, can talk openly about how they are feeling. We are here to listen, support, and help find solutions.
Real Stories from Our Community
“When your family member reaches the sunset of their life, with their mental and physical abilities being severely compromised, one of the most difficult things is to find some hope for the present and future, to give a family member some meaningful experience that would give them the boost to their spirit and the comfort in satisfying their needs.
The older and more disabled the person is, the harder it is to provide experiences that they would find enjoyable and which could help them not to give up.

My mother and I are very fortunate to find such people, both carers and management, at Right at Home whose professional expertise, friendly attitude and kind desire to help have been making an enormous difference in my mum's life. According to my mother's words, the support she has been receiving prolongs her life and gives her the drive to cope with the challenges of every new day even when
the difficulties of living seem to be overwhelming."
