Asian Family Matters Group, Southampton

In collaboration with the Vedic Society and Caraway, we started the Asian Family Matters Group to encourage Asian communities to discuss their health more openly and be aware of the services and support they can access.

Whether it's physical health or mental health, typically, Asian communities don't speak out about their experiences, issues or health problems. Even when spoken about, it may not ever leave the family circle.

Our goal for this group is to equip them with a safe space for the Asian community to learn about what services they can access, encourage conversations about health and provide guest speakers to share professional knowledge.

So far, we have had a Psychiatrist and a pharmacist; we look forward to welcoming Wessex Cancer Trust and Kate Hough from Southampton University to discuss brain health and hearing loss.

This group is at the Vedic Society Hindu Temple Southampton every 3rd Monday of the month between 1:30 pm and 3 pm. All are welcome; we are a Dementia friendly space. For more information you can get in contact on either [email protected] or [email protected].

Break the Taboo. Our Communities are missing out on vital services open to them. Talk openly, and let's support each other; you are not alone.
