Right at Home Solent offer various Home Care services across Southampton, Fareham, Gosport and the New Forest. One of the services is our Dementia Support Programme; at Right at Home Solent, we offer at-home support for people living with dementia to provide our Clients and their families with an improved quality of life.

Meet Right at Home Solent Dementia Support Carer Zoe
Zoe has been with Right at Home Solent since March 2023 and loves it. Having worked in a Dementia Care Home and Dementia Reablement in the community previously, Zoe has had experience working in similar environments. Her Nan also lived with Dementia, so it's close to the heart for Zoe.
Working in a Care Home prompted Zoe to think about all the people living in the community with Dementia, the isolation from the world they must be facing and the impact on their families. After five years, Zoe went into Dementia Reablement in the community and has never looked back.
After doing this for 18 months, Zoe fell pregnant with her firstborn. Despite wanting to return to this role, she decided to take some time to raise her son and wait until returning to work. Unfortunately, when Zoe was ready to return to work, the firm she worked for didn't do Dementia Reablement anymore. Lucky for us as this was when Zoe found Right at Home Solent.
Did You Know?
Zoe grew up with Banger Racing. Her dad used to buy cars, strip them down, put a metal frame on them and crash into others. He would also use them to jump various lengths - How exciting!
One of the things Zoe enjoys about being a Dementia Support Carer is the amount of time she gets to spend with the Clients. Our minimum call time is usually an hour, but with our Dementia Support Programme, we have a minimum of three hours. It allows a caring and genuine rapport and our Carers to really get to know their Client and their Client's Dementia.
Dementia Support in Fareham
Zoe specifically tailors her visit to her Client's individual support needs and wants; she'll sit with the family and get to know them, what they enjoy doing and what they previously enjoyed doing but may now need support with.
For example, when Zoe found out that Mr R enjoyed walking to the beach, she nurtured this love and assisted Mr R in walking to Hill Head beach, whether he wanted to stay there for 10 minutes or an hour. Whilst there, Mr R spoke to Zoe about the boats on the calm sea, the planes and how he used to swim in the ocean.
To which Zoe now jokes and says: "If you go for a swim, then I will!" - he always laughs.

"
Before becoming a CareGiver with Right at Home Solent, everyone undertakes a three-day training induction in Fareham, and our Dementia Support Carers also do extra Dementia specific training. Zoe found our training "brilliant" and "in-depth" and commented on the fact we do it all before going on the road and meeting Clients. We ensure our CareGivers feel confident and comfortable before heading out alone.
Zoe's favourite part of the job is seeing her Clients' smiling, laughing and going somewhere that triggers a memory they enjoy sharing with her - What a magical moment.
