Right at Home Solent’s Afternoon Tea: An Afternoon of Music, Laughter and Good Company

An Afternoon to Remember
There is something special about sitting down with a cup of tea, some lovely food and good company. That is exactly what our clients enjoyed at a special afternoon tea at the Right at Home Solent Fareham office on Thursday 27 August.
Ten clients joined us for an afternoon of fresh fruit, sandwiches, scones, tea, music and plenty of laughter. It was a lovely opportunity to spend time together, catch up and simply enjoy each other’s company.
A Chance to Get Together
The afternoon tea was organised after some of our clients were unable to attend our Big Green Picnic in July. The very hot weather and a change of date meant that some people could not make it, while others felt that travelling to Southampton was a little too far.
Ali, our Office Manager, and Paula, our Community Engagement and Partnerships Lead, wanted to make sure those clients still had the opportunity to enjoy a social afternoon with others. Together, they organised a special afternoon tea at our Fareham office.
Four carers attended with their Clients, picking them up, staying with them throughout the afternoon and taking them home afterwards. Other members of the team also helped with transport, making sure everyone could get to the afternoon tea and home safely afterwards.
It was a real team effort and, most importantly, it gave our Clients a chance to get together and have some fun.

Music, Singing and Plenty of Laughter
Live music was a big part of the afternoon, with Danny providing the entertainment.
He did a brilliant job of getting everyone involved and even made some of the songs personal to the Clients. One particularly lovely moment came when he changed one of the songs to include one of the client's names.
She sat with a huge smile on her face, sang back to Danny and thanked him at the end.
The Dolly Parton songs were another favourite.
When Danny played Jolene and 9 to 5, everyone knew the words. Even some of the team from upstairs came down and joined in with the singing.
There was singing, laughing, chatting and plenty of what could only be described as seat dancing!
Why Social Afternoons Matter
Getting people together for an afternoon like this is about more than tea and cake.
For some older people, opportunities to socialise can become less frequent. They may not get out as much as they used to, or friends and family may not live nearby.
Having somewhere to meet other people, have a chat and enjoy an activity can give them something to look forward to.
It was lovely to see our Clients talking to each other, laughing and enjoying the music. Seeing those smiles was a big part of what made the afternoon so enjoyable for everyone involved.
More Social Events to Come
Right at Home Solent previously held a regular coffee and tea club for clients, and the team are now looking at bringing these social gatherings back.
We are also hoping to hold another afternoon tea at our Southampton office towards the end of October or beginning of November.
These events are a lovely way for our Clients to spend time together outside of their usual routines, with the support of people they know and trust.
