Dementia Now Features in Almost Half of Care Home Searches
Families looking for care are increasingly looking for dementia support. Lottie’s Q3 2026 Care Index, which covers July to September 2026, found that residential and nursing dementia care together made up 47.1% of care home enquiries with a stated care type. A year earlier, in Q3 2025, that figure was 42.8%.
The same data shows that families still lead the search, making up 71.4% of enquirers who declared their relationship to the person needing care. Professionals made up 19.6% of enquiries, up from 15.2% a year earlier.
Those numbers reflect something we already see in our work: more families are asking how to keep a loved one with dementia at home for as long as it is safe and right for them.
What Does Dementia Care at Home Look Like?
Questions worth asking
Before arranging care, it can help to ask:
Have carers received dementia-specific training, and how often is it refreshed?
How will the care plan reflect the person’s history, preferences and daily routines?
How will changes in needs be reviewed, and who will you speak to if something changes?
How does the provider keep families informed?
Every person’s journey with dementia is different. If you are unsure where to start, our team in Enfield is happy to talk it through with you, with no pressure. Call 0203 967 7500.
Staying at home with dementia
Home care can make a real difference to someone living with dementia. Familiar surroundings, a regular routine and the same faces at the door can reduce confusion and anxiety. A carer can help with meals, medication, washing and dressing at a pace that suits the person, and that unhurried rhythm often helps them stay connected to the things they enjoy.
