Lest We Forget: honouring those who served, and caring for them at home
This Remembrance Sunday, we pause to honour the men and women who served. For many veterans, care at home can help them keep their independence and their sense of self.

Lest We Forget: honouring those who served, and caring for them at home
Remembrance Sunday falls on 8 November this year. Across the country, people will pause at the eleventh hour to remember those who gave their lives, and those who came home carrying the lasting effects of their service.
Many veterans are proud of their service and want to stay in their own homes for as long as possible. Some need a little more support as they age, or after an illness, a fall or a hospital stay. Others are caring for a partner who also served. Whatever the story, the aim is the same: to help people keep their independence, their routines and the things that matter to them.
What care at home can look like
Care at home is tailored to the person, not the other way round. It might include:
Companionship: a regular visit for conversation, a cup of tea and shared memories.
Personal care and daily support: help with washing, dressing, meals and medication, at a pace that suits them.
Support after hospital: help settling back into their own home.
Respite for family carers: a planned break for the people who look after them.
