Big Green Picnic Round-Up 2025

Published: 01/09/2025

This summer, Right at Home offices across the UK came together to host the Big Green Picnic – a nationwide campaign created in partnership with Dementia Adventure. From beach barbecues to garden gatherings, the events gave people living with dementia, their families, and their communities the chance to enjoy the outdoors and create special memories.

What made the Big Green Picnic so powerful wasn’t just the sunshine, the music, or the food – it was the sense of community for the people we support. For our network of Franchise Owners, it was also a chance to showcase the culture and values that make Right at Home unique: quality care, meaningful community impact, and the drive to go beyond day-to-day support.

Highlights from Across the Network

  • Right at Home Swindon shared smiles, sunshine and dancing, creating an afternoon their team will never forget.
  • In Medway, the day was filled with flower arranging, crafts, music, bingo, and a delicious picnic spread – a real celebration of community spirit.
  • Bridgend & Vale of Glamorgan brought people together at Bryn Celyn Care Home in Maesteg, raising awareness and showing how simple moments of connection can help reduce stigma around dementia.

Collaboration was at the heart of many events. Right at Home South Cheshire worked with Mill House and the local charity Wishing Well to deliver a celebration of wellbeing in Nantwich. “It’s all about creating joyful, accessible moments for the people we support,” said Community Engagement Manager Zoe Cooper.

In Stevenage, Bishop’s Stortford & Braintree, Franchise Owner Chris Neal piloted the campaign with an afternoon of sensory activities, live music and flower arranging at Meadowbrook Care Home. “Everyone worked seamlessly to create a brilliant atmosphere,” Chris said. “It couldn’t have been better.”

Creativity and Inclusivity

Some offices brought a unique twist to the Big Green Picnic. Grantham & Newark welcomed guests to Grantham Tennis Club for music, refreshments and a dementia-led singing session – the same week the office was named one of the Top 20 Homecare Providers in the East Midlands.

The team at Right at Home Mid Hampshire gave their event a tropical theme, featuring fresh fruit cocktails, garlands, grass skirts and hula dancing; it was a memorable afternoon for everyone!

In Bournemouth & Poole, a dementia-friendly Big Green Barbecue on Branksome Beach gave Clients and families the chance to enjoy the sea air and singalongs. “This event is about togetherness,” said Managing Director Andrew Davis.

Going the Extra Mile for Dementia Adventure

Alongside the picnics, Franchise Owners and their teams have gone above and beyond to support Dementia Adventure. In Ilkley, Keighley & Skipton, the team took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, raising over £1,000. Meanwhile, in Guildford & Farnham, Franchise Owner Alastair Shanks and the rest of his amazing care professionals completed a fire walk, raising over £2,500.

And Right at Home’s annual charity golf day, held this year at Sandwell Park in Bromwich, saw more than £6,000 raised throughout the day, with some amazing golfing experiences sold at auction.

These efforts highlight the entrepreneurial spirit and generosity that define our network – business owners who are determined to make a meaningful impact in their communities.

Why It Matters for Franchise Owners

The Big Green Picnic is a perfect example of what makes Right at Home different. It shows how our Franchise Owners can combine commercial success with genuine social value – running businesses that deliver high-quality care while creating opportunities for connection, inclusion and joy.

As Kate Dilworth, Associate Director - Network Development, explains:

"The Big Green Picnic isn’t just about events in the sunshine – it’s about showing what our culture looks like in action. Our Franchise Owners and their teams created spaces where people could laugh, talk and feel included. That’s the heart of Right at Home: Care that enriches lives and connects communities."

With national campaigns like this, central marketing support, and partnerships with charities such as Dementia Adventure, we give our Franchise Owners the tools to engage their local communities and stand out as leaders in the care sector.
