Resales showcase a successful business model
Enabling Right at Home Franchise Owners to achieve their long-term goals

THREE Right at Home offices passed into new hands recently, yielding the selling owners a significant return on their initial investments.
Multi-unit owner Almas Adam – who became our youngest franchisee when he joined the network in 2014, aged 22 – became a top performer in the network and won a bfa Young Franchisee of the Year award as he built up a £2m revenue business in Loughton, Redbridge and Waltham Forest. He went on to purchase RaH Harrow in 2022 and regularly claimed a top 3 place in our Franchise Owner League Tables.
Almas and his family are now living in Dubai, and last year he made the difficult decision to sell his care businesses in order to focus on other shared enterprises.
This gave us the opportunity to welcome former project manager and business consultant Jesant Samji into the Right at Home network, as he realised his ambitions to leave his corporate career and join the quality care sector.
Jesant was introduced to Almas by the Franchise Resales brokerage service, and - as with all applicants to Right at Home - he had to complete a rigorous evaluation and qualification process, alongside the detailed Due Diligence that is required when buying a business.
Jesant said: “I have known for a number of years that I wanted to join this rewarding sector – it offers so many opportunities and through extensive research I became sure that Right at Home was the best fit for me, in terms of the brand and franchise support.
“That said, there was a lot of work to do, to make sure that this was the right investment opportunity on every level – and I also had to show the franchisor that I was well-placed to take these businesses onwards and upwards. I’ve been on a steep learning curve and that will continue for some time, but I’ve had excellent support.
“The Right at Home team and Franchise Resales ensured there was a smooth sale process for Almas and I to follow, and the local teams have been fantastic in helping me learn their operational processes. I will continue training with Right at Home UK over the coming months and we’re also working on putting some exciting plans in place to grow our community presence.”
Another resale that completed on the same day was an internal acquisition, with Right at Home North Cheshire & Leigh changing hands from Julie Houston to neighbouring franchisee Dave Meanwell, owner of Right at Home Stockport & Didsbury.
Julie launched the North Cheshire business in 2016 and became both a high performing owner and the first female owner on our Franchise Advisory Council, collaborating with Right at Home on operational direction and key projects. She was joined in the business by her husband Steve, an accountant, and they acquired a second micro-territory covering Lymm and Warrington South in 2022.
While they have sold the bigger arm of their business, Julie and Steve have retained the Lymm area, giving full managerial responsibility to their Operations Director, Clare Coke, and allowing themselves the freedom to pursue their love of travel.
Julie said: "It’s been an amazing journey, and I have so much respect for the Clients and their families who have trusted us to care for them. It has been a very humbling experience and I have met some amazing people along the way. To our fantastic care and management team – your dedication and hard work have been nothing short of inspiring, and I’m deeply grateful for each and every one of you."
The acquisition also allowed their neighbour, Dave Meanwell, to realise his expansion plans.
Dave said: “I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to own and run an existing Right at Home Franchise with a strong reputation. Julie and Steve Houston have built a business based on the Right at Home core values, and this shows in the Client and employee reviews. I am looking forward to seeing how we can continue this great work.”
Right at Home chairman and founder Ken Deary commented: “Resales really can be the cherry on the cake, in terms of a franchise business model. Once they have established their business, a successful owner will enjoy year-on-year operating profits and then also recoup a good multiplier on this when they come to sell on.
“For a growing business in our sector, we might typically see this around 3 x your EDBITDAR, so this means a business with £333k operating profit would sell for £1million. Added to your annual profits, that’s an extremely good return on your initial investment!”
