Brief history of the area

Like Epsom, Ewell Village is on the spring line between the chalk of the North Downs and London Clay, and there are springs that are the source of the Hogsmill River. Ewell, now part of the Borough of Epsom and Ewell, is in the north-east quarter of Surrey, not far from Greater London. It also benefits from being part of Travel Card Zone 6 since January 2008. The High Street has a thriving local community feel, full of independent boutiques and local businesses.

Bourne Hall Library and Epsom and Ewell Local and Family History Centre is a very popular destination and enviable source of local knowledge. It has various community and business facilities, while also being a popular wedding venue.

Did you know?

In Tudor times, Ewell lost some of its land when Henry VIII had Nonsuch Palace built in the neighbouring parish of Cuddington, home of Cuddington Golf Club. Much of the surrounding parkland survives as Nonsuch Park.
