An Unforgettable Day
At Right at Home Weybridge & Richmond, we believe care goes beyond daily tasks; it’s about supporting emotional wellbeing and creating meaningful connections. This philosophy came to life on a Tuesday in May during a special "Magic Moment" for a Client, Dave, and his wife, Brenda.
The Carer team - including Sylwia, Karen and Sally - voluntarily dedicated three hours of their own time to make this day unforgettable. We learned that Dave and Brenda dearly loved spending time at Bushy Park, but due to Dave's diagnosis, they hadn't been able to visit for over three years. The goal was clear: to celebrate the Client and enable the couple to make cherished new memories together, free from the usual struggles of providing care.
A Return to a Cherished Spot
The three Carers accompanied Dave and Brenda to Bushy Park. For the first time in over three years, the couple was able to enjoy their favourite spot again. The afternoon was filled with positivity, marked by "lots of laughter, smiles, and happy tears".
The voluntary effort was not just about giving the Client a special birthday, but also about supporting Brenda, his next of kin. Having the care team handle all aspects of her husband's care allowed Brenda to truly relax, something she hadn't been able to do during an outing for a long time. Both Dave and Brenda kept thanking the Carers for a wonderful time out.
Brenda expressed her gratitude, stating that she was “truly grateful for a trip out where all care aspects for her husband were supported and she could just relax.”
“Taking Brenda and Dave out for a special afternoon and seeing their faces relax and enjoy their surroundings is why I love being a Carer. As a team we genuinely enjoy making a difference to people in a way that extends beyond providing care” - Sally, Carer, Right at Home Weybridge & Richmond
This successful “Magic Moment” perfectly illustrates the core philosophy of truly person-centred care. By donating personal time, the Carers created an opportunity for Dave and Brenda to revisit a cherished place and build a new memory. The trip to Bushy Park brought immense joy, lots of smiles, and happy tears for them both. Crucially, it provided Brenda with a much-needed opportunity to relax and enjoy time with her husband, knowing all care aspects were fully supported. These thoughtful, selfless gestures reinforce the strong bond between our team and the families we support, enhancing their quality of life.
