Barbara's Magic Moment: An Afternoon at York House Gardens

How Carer Oliwia created a perfect person-centred outing for active Client Barbara

Published: 13/05/2026

A Magic Moment to Remember

At Right at Home in Weybridge & Richmond, our commitment is to provide exceptional care by genuinely getting to know our Clients, ensuring their care is extra special and creating memorable personal moments. We call these special experiences "Magic Moments."

Barbara, a kind and active Client, is someone who deeply enjoys walks, nature, and animals.

Her dedicated Carer, Olywia, has built a strong relationship with Barbara, often spending time organising and polishing her home, alongside their regular outings to local cafés.

Recognising Barbara's love for being active and the outdoors, Olywia planned a special trip on a sunny day to one of her own favourite local spots: York House Gardens. Barbara was delighted by the suggestion and ready for the adventure.

Exploring the Splendour of York House Gardens and Eel Pie Island

On a beautiful sunny day, Olywia drove Barbara to the stunning area near Eel Pie Island and the river. The river offered a big, open view that was bustling with activity. They spent time watching various boats of all shapes and sizes, noting people enjoying both rowing and stand-up paddling. This shared experience provided a stimulating and engaging backdrop for their day. The outing then continued into the famous York House Gardens. As they walked the scenic route, they admired the variety of impressive features, including a walking bridge adorned with draping flowers and evenly spaced benches.

A particular highlight was the tall, Italian fountain, which is magnificent with 10 statues carved from marble dating back to the nineteenth century. The gardens were a feast for the senses, featuring beautiful ponds, tall trees, and flowers of all colours. Barbara thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the different parts of the garden. She was particularly captivated by the diverse foliage, stating she was "in awe of the different kinds of trees and their sizes".

For Barbara, who values being active and immersed in nature, this scenic walk was not just an outing but a meaningful activity that perfectly aligned with her core interests. This success highlights the deep commitment of our Carers, like Olywia, to ensuring every Client’s unique preferences are met.

“I was in awe of the different kinds of trees and their sizes. It was so lovely to get out and be active; this walk was exactly what I needed. Oliwia knows just what I like.”
