Our Trusted Charity Partner:
Dementia Adventure

Exceptional Care, Inspiring Adventure

At Right at Home, we believe that quality care is about more than just supporting daily needs. It’s about helping people live the life they choose, staying connected to what brings them joy, comfort and purpose.

To make that possible, we’re proud to partner with organisations like Dementia Adventure that share our values and are committed to making a genuine difference.

Through this collaboration, we are working to create more opportunities for Clients, family carers and communities to thrive.

About Dementia Adventure

Dementia Adventure is a national charity with a simple but powerful belief: with the right support, people living with dementia can continue to enjoy new experiences, make lasting memories and stay connected to the people and places they love.

The charity takes a positive, person-centred approach. Its work focuses on what people can do rather than what limits them, encouraging confidence, independence and meaningful engagement with the natural world.

What Dementia Adventure Offers

  • Supported holidays and short breaks for people living with dementia and their loved ones, providing safe, inclusive experiences that bring families together
  • Free training and resources for family carers and care professionals, offering practical tools and expert guidance
  • Nature-based activities that support physical and emotional wellbeing through time outdoors
  • Community projects that make green spaces more accessible and dementia-friendly

Their Vision

Dementia Adventure’s vision is a world where everyone living with dementia can enjoy nature, adventure and social connection, regardless of their circumstances. The charity works to remove the physical, emotional and financial barriers that can prevent people from accessing these experiences.

A Partnership Built on Shared Values

At Right at Home, we support many Clients who are living with dementia. Our care professionals provide high-quality, person-centred care, always with a focus on building trust, promoting independence, and improving quality of life.

Partnering with Dementia Adventure allows us to extend that support even further. Together, we can:

  • Encourage Clients and their families to enjoy time outdoors
  • Raise awareness of dementia in our local communities
  • Share expert-led training and resources with those who need it
  • Create inclusive experiences that help reduce isolation

“What makes Right at Home and Dementia Adventure a good partnership? It’s all about being person-centred – seeing the person rather than their medical condition. Both organisations don’t see people’s conditions. They see the lives people are living and want them to continue to live those lives as fully and richly as possible.

Right at Home provides that by enabling people to remain at home and receive the least restrictive support to continue doing the things they love.

Dementia Adventure is all about that as well. By working together, we can inspire people to appreciate that continuing to do the things we love is absolutely key—and is so brilliant for the continued health and wellbeing of us all, especially as we age.”

The Big Green Picnic

The Big Green Picnic is a wonderful way we bring our partnership with Dementia Adventure to life by creating joyful, inclusive experiences that connect people with nature and one another.

In May, Right at Home Stevenage, Bishop’s Stortford & Braintree hosted the very first Big Green Picnic in collaboration with Dementia Adventure at Meadowbrook Care Home. The event was a celebration of a community coming together, featuring an afternoon of sensory activities, flower arranging, live music and plenty of sunshine.

Right at Home Clients joined local staff, volunteers and friends for a relaxed outdoor gathering that focused on wellbeing, companionship and fun.

“The picnic was a fantastic success, thanks to the incredible support from Dementia Adventure, Meadowbrook Care Home, and all the local groups who came together to make the day special. Everyone worked seamlessly to create a brilliant atmosphere, and with the sun shining all day, it couldn’t have been better. It’s been a wonderful event, and everyone who came along had a great time.”

— Christopher Neal, Managing Director, Right at Home Stevenage, Bishop’s Stortford & Braintree

Plan a Picnic That Makes a Difference

Since the pilot event, Right at Home offices across the UK have started hosting their own Big Green Picnics, bringing Clients, families and neighbours together in parks, gardens and shared community spaces.

The Big Green Picnic is more than just an outdoor event. It offers a chance to:

  • Celebrate the positive impact of nature on health and wellbeing
  • Encourage social connection and reduce feelings of isolation
  • Raise funds to support Dementia Adventure’s life-changing work

These gatherings are inclusive, welcoming and especially designed to support people living with dementia and their loved ones. Whether it's a quiet get-together or a larger celebration, each picnic allows Right at Home offices to connect with local community partners and put on a day that brings joy and inclusion to Clients.

To help care providers and local groups organise their own event, Right at Home and Dementia Adventure have created a Big Green Picnic Toolkit. This practical guide is designed to make planning simple and enjoyable, no matter the size of your gathering.

The toolkit includes:

  • Helpful tips for setting up your picnic
  • Gentle, nature-inspired activities that encourage calm and connection
  • Ideas that work for a variety of abilities and energy levels
  • Easy-to-follow safety guidance to ensure a smooth and enjoyable day

Whether you’re hosting a quiet afternoon in a garden or inviting the wider community for something bigger, the toolkit makes it easy to create a day full of smiles and meaningful moments.

Client and Carer enjoying our Big Green Picnic

"Right at Home and Dementia Adventure are both in the business of making a positive impact on the lives of those living with dementia and their families. We look at creative ways to make a real difference—whether that’s through raising awareness, delivering meaningful training opportunities, or opening doors for local offices to work with their communities. From events like the Big Green Picnic to supporting Clients to go on their own supported holidays, this partnership reminds us why we come into this sector. There have already been so many benefits to working together, and we’re just getting started."
