Right at Home & Dementia Adventure Launches the Big Green Picnic Across the UK

Published: 16/06/2025

This summer, Right at Home offices up and down the country are stepping out into their local communities to celebrate the joy of connection in the great outdoors.

In partnership with the charity Dementia Adventure, we are proud to launch the Big Green Picnic – a nationwide campaign that encourages inclusive, dementia-friendly gatherings in parks, gardens and community spaces. From 16 June, during National Picnic Week and Care Home Open Week, and well into July, our local teams will be hosting a wide range of Big Green Picnic events – all designed to support people living with dementia and their families.

At Right at Home, we know that the smallest things often make the biggest difference. Whether it’s sitting in the sunshine with a cuppa, enjoying live music, or simply spending time with others in a safe, welcoming environment – moments like these can have a huge impact on someone’s wellbeing.

That’s what the Big Green Picnic is all about.

The initiative brings together Clients, Care Professionals, families, community groups and local partners to enjoy time outdoors, spark conversation, and create memories. Each event is uniquely shaped by the people who take part – and our offices across the UK have embraced the idea with enthusiasm, creativity and care.

A successful start in Bishop’s Stortford

Earlier this May, the Big Green Picnic was piloted at Meadowbrook Care Home in Bishop’s Stortford, where Right at Home Stevenage, Bishop’s Stortford & Braintree joined forces with Dementia Adventure and care home staff to host a fun-filled afternoon filled with sensory activities, flower arranging, music, and good vibes.

The event brought together over 30 residents and Clients, plus staff, volunteers and local supporters – all enjoying the sunshine and each other’s company. It was a fantastic example of how a simple idea can bring people together and lift spirits in an extraordinary way.

Kate Dilworth, Head of Network Development at Right at Home, attended the event and shared:

“This is what Right at Home is all about: creating moments of connection that go far beyond traditional care. The Big Green Picnic isn’t about big budgets or elaborate planning – it’s about giving people the chance to enjoy time together in nature, and our partnership with Dementia Adventure is already making a real difference.”

Care that goes above and beyond

We’re incredibly proud of how many Right at Home offices are getting involved with this campaign. From small garden picnics to larger community celebrations, every event reflects our shared commitment to making an invaluable difference in people’s lives.

Our teams go above and beyond every day to offer person-centred support – not just in the home, but in the community too. Whether it’s supporting someone to stay active, reconnect with their hobbies, or attend events like the Big Green Picnic, we believe in helping people live life to the full.

If you're caring for a loved one with dementia, looking for trusted, high-quality homecare, or considering a career where you can make a genuine difference – we’d love to hear from you.
