Bringing Two Communities Together in Liphook

The Big Green Picnic welcomed more than 50 attendees to Hollycombe Steam Fair, creating an opportunity for Clients, CareGivers, loved ones and colleagues from both Right at Home Guildford & Farnham and Right at Home Alton & Bordon to spend quality time together.

Guests enjoyed a relaxed afternoon filled with delicious sandwiches, cakes, sweet treats and refreshments while making new friendships and catching up with familiar faces. Events like these are an important part of helping combat loneliness and social isolation, particularly for older people and those living with dementia.

The day was made possible thanks to the planning and organisation of Registered Manager Adriana Menconda and Care Manager Vicky Parker, with support from Jenny Thornton, Community Relations Manager, and Sharon Hibberd, Care Manager at Right at Home Alton & Bordon. Their hard work ensured everyone could simply relax, enjoy themselves and make lasting memories together.

Supporting Dementia Adventure Through Community Events

As Dementia Specialists, Right at Home Guildford & Farnham proudly supports Dementia Adventure for a second consecutive year. The charity helps people living with dementia experience the joy of outdoor adventures, from memorable days at iconic locations such as Lord's Cricket Ground to mini holidays in places including the Isle of Wight.

To support the charity, the team organised a large tombola featuring dozens of generous prizes. Thanks to the incredible support of everyone attending, the tombola alone raised more than £100 towards the team's ongoing fundraising efforts.

One of the day's biggest highlights came as a complete surprise to many guests. Everyone climbed aboard one of Hollycombe Steam Fair's historic steam trains for a scenic journey through the stunning South Downs. With beautiful sunshine throughout the afternoon, the unexpected train ride quickly became a favourite memory for many who attended and perfectly captured the spirit of the event.

“We had an amazing day. We couldn't have done it without Hollycombe Steam Fair and their wonderful train ride. We initially had to postpone the event because of June's heatwave, but the day exceeded all expectations. It was fantastic to see everyone come together for such an incredible cause. Thank you to everyone who attended - we can't wait to do something similar again soon.

The Big Green Picnic once again demonstrated the power of community, friendship and shared experiences. By bringing together Clients, families and Carers while raising valuable funds for Dementia Adventure, the event created lasting memories for everyone involved. Right at Home Guildford & Farnham looks forward to continuing its partnership with Dementia Adventure and creating even more meaningful opportunities for people living with dementia to enjoy life to the fullest.
