Right at Home GF honoured with ‘Making a Difference’ at Right at Home Celebration Awards

Right at Home GF has been recognised with a Making a Difference Award at the recent Right at Home national celebration awards.
The award was given for a compassionate and innovative initiative, which began during COVID and has evolved into an important and much appreciated celebration of the lives of clients who have passed away.
Adriana Mendonca, Registered Manager for Guildford and Farnham came up with the original idea and explains: “During COVID, our carers were unable to attend the funerals of the clients they had cared for so deeply. As a way of sharing with the families how much their loved ones meant to us, I started to gather carers’ treasured memories of each client into beautifully crafted memory books, which we then shared with the families. We know from feedback that the books have offered families a great deal of comfort at a sad time and have shown how much their loved ones were valued by our carers.”
The initiative has since grown with Right at Home GF now inviting families and carers to special afternoon teas where memories and thoughts are shared in a warm, supportive environment.
Alastair Shanks, Managing Director at Right at Home GF says: “As we care for people in their own homes, we naturally get to know and build relationships with their family members too. Our role may formally end when a client passes away, but the bond we share with their loved ones does not. The memory books and afternoon teas provide a space for both families and carers to come together, reflect, and find a sense of closure.
“The award highlights the deep compassion and dedication of the Guildford & Farnham team, whose work goes far beyond traditional care - I am very proud of the team and their achievement.”
