Dementia care specialist, Right at Home GF is helping to inform more people about the condition during this month’s national Dementia Action Week from 16 to 22 May.

During the awareness-raising week, the home care provider has organised two special screenings of the film Head Full of Honey. The comedy drama is about a widowed grandfather with Alzheimer’s who is taken on a road trip to Venice by his granddaughter.

The film will be shown at the community centre at St Mark’s Church, Upper Hale from 2-5pm on 16 May and the United Reformed Church in Guildford from 1-5pm on 18 May. The film will be followed by a question and answer session with a panel of dementia experts. Tickets cost £5 which will be payable at the door – there is no charge for carers. To book, please email [email protected]. Any money raised will go directly to the Alzheimer’s Society

On 18 May, Managing Director and Dementia Friends Champion Alastair Shanks is running a free dementia awareness session at the Farnham Maltings. He says: “There are currently around 900,000 people in the UK living with dementia so the chances are you know somebody who has it or will soon come across somebody who is living with the disease.

“As a dementia friends champion, it is my aim to use this informal and interactive session to dispel some of the myths and provide an insight into what dementia is and how it impacts on people’s lives. I’ll also be offering some top tips on the dos and don’ts of interacting with someone living with dementia and how it feels from the point of view of the person with the condition.”

The dementia awareness session starts at 2.30pm. Anybody who would like to attend can register on the Farnham Maltings website or call the box office on 01252 745444.

The team at Right at Home GF provide in-home care for people with dementia across Guildford and Farnham. They also run a number of community support groups including Singing for the Mind, Exclusive Cricket, Love to Move and a dementia-friendly café.
