The wife of a Royal Navy veteran was proudly able to watch her husband lay a wreath on Remembrance Sunday thanks to technology and careful planning with her CareGivers from Right at Home GF. Mr Brian Thomas paid his respects at the war memorial in Churt while his wife, Maggie watched at home through a video link with her CareGiver.

“It was a huge honour for Mr Thomas to be invited by the Royal Navy to lay a wreath on its behalf and Mrs Thomas was keen to witness the event. Although she was unable to leave her home, Mrs Thomas’s CareGivers were determined to help her share the moment,” says Alastair Shanks, Managing Director at Right at Home GF, which provides care for Mrs Thomas in her own home.

“Our CareGivers teamed up to carry out a WhatsApp video call, with one of them at the service and one at Mrs Thomas’s bedside so that she could watch the wreath laying live,” explains Mr Shanks. “We have some beautiful photographs for Mr and Mrs Thomas of him at the service looking extremely smart with his medals. It was a special occasion for Mr and Mrs Thomas and my team found the whole experience very moving. Sharing in these moments and helping our clients enjoy as full a life as possible is one of the many privileges of working in the home care sector,” says Mr Shanks.

Right at Home GF provides a range of care for clients in their own homes, from companionship and everyday tasks such as assisting at mealtimes to live-in 24-hour personal care. The care provider prides itself in helping clients continue to enjoy life, including pastimes, trips and social opportunities wherever possible.
