The coronavirus pandemic has shown the vital role the care sector plays in supporting our communities to stay safe and supported at home.

The high-quality care we provide, as highlighted by our recent homecare.co.uk Top 20 homecare group award win, wouldn’t be possible without an exceptional team of caring, committed staff who are proud to work in the homecare sector. As such, today (Monday 5 July 2021), we are launching our ‘Proud of My Profession’ campaign, showcasing the different reasons why staff across the Right at Home network have decided to enter the care profession and why they are proud to work in care. Our campaign will show Carers and office staff of all ages and backgrounds who have joined our Right at Home family and why a career in care is the perfect fit for them. Follow our campaign on FacebookInstagram and Twitter.

How to start a career in care

If you’re looking to take the next step in your career and make the move into the care sector, now is a great time. A career in care offers long-term job security as the demand for homecare services across the UK continues to rise. This is due to a number of reasons, including people living longer, people experiencing more complex care needs and people’s wish to continue living in the familiar surroundings of their own home for as long as possible. As our Proud of My Profession campaign will show, you can start a career in care at any age. For some roles, like a Carer for example, no experience is necessary, a quality provider like Right at Home will provide you with all the training and support you need to be comfortable and confident in your role. You can find out more about the role of a Carer and other roles we have here at Right at Home on our Join Our Team page.

“Having worked in an office environment for over 20 years, I felt I wanted to try something new. I did some research on care companies in the area and from the website and speaking to Right at Home, I felt the company provided the care I wanted to give. The training days were pretty full on but I expected this as I didn’t have previous care experience. I love that no day is the same, and the smile of appreciation that I get at the end of the visit.” Becky, CareGiver

What makes a good Carer?

For us, a good Carer demonstrates our four core values of trust, compassion, respect and a firm focus on delivering the highest standard of quality care and emotional support to our Clients. For people that are new to the sector, think about the transferable skills you have in your current role or previous job. Are you a great listener? Do you have good communication skills? Are you good at problem solving? All of these are strong skills to bring to a new career in care. Above all though, a good Carer is someone with a big heart, who genuinely cares and enjoys working with people to improve their quality of life.

“I wanted to make a difference and find a rewarding career. I didn’t know much about the industry but I’m so happy I choose this company as the training and staff are amazing. I finally found my calling! I love being able to make my Clients laugh and get so much from my job that I wish I’d done this earlier.” Marie, CareGiver
